Whether it’s for ethical reasons, health reasons or you just want to try a different kind of milk, soya milk has so many benefits that I’m going to tell you about in this post.
If you want a full on comparison of all the milks, head over to my blog post here: Plant Milk Vs. Dairy
A good source.
Soya milk is a great source of protein. One cup contains around 7g and as we all know, protein is used by the body to build and repair tissues. It’s important for bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood.
When fortified, soya milk is also high in calcium. It provides around 300mg per 250ml serving. Calcium’s needed for the body to take on the vitamins which help develop healthy, strong bones and teeth.
Potassium is also within this milk, which helps to regulate blood pressure. There’s around 275mg within a serving!
Naturally free from cholesterol.
Due to being made from plants, soya milk is naturally free from cholesterol. There’s usually around 10mg cholesterol in 100ml of full fat milk, which is definitely something to be wary of.
Cholesterol is needed for the body to build healthy cells but too much can cause an increase of heart disease. This is as it’s a waxy substance that leaves fatty deposits in your blood vessels. Not for me that!
Whether you’re a vegan or not, soya has a very similar nutrition content to cow’s milk. The production of soy milk uses only 28% of the water that would be needed for a dairy version – meaning less environmental impact. This is something we should all be very cautious of! You can see more about the impact to the planet from meat & dairy consumption here: Vegan for the planet.
I won’t go into it too much on this post but it also means there’s no cruelty towards cows too. Read more on this here: You’re not a baby cow. Everyone cares a little about animals right?
Do you or are you considering going vegan? If so, I’d recommend checking out my other posts. They’re there to help and inspire others, so use them to your heart’s content. Any questions, pop me a comment!
